The Real Danger Christians Need to be Concerned About
Read Psalm 18. David wasn’t concerned about the dangers of the natural world, and neither should we be. He was thinking as a spiritual man, perhaps about his physical enemies.
The Holy Spirit didn’t include this psalm in His word to warn us about nature’s dangers. You can destroy a human body without harming the spirit. You can tear down the temple without injuring the spirit that dwells within. You can leave a man’s bones in the desert, yet his spirit remains unharmed in the presence of his Father and God. True dangers are those that reach the soul and spirit of a person.
In the Bible, soldiers cut off John the Baptist’s head but didn’t harm him at all. When our Savior died on the cross, His body was broken for us, yet Christ Jesus was preserved in the bosom of God. The same was true for Paul when he was executed. The apostle said, “Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them that love his appearing” (2 Tim. 4:8). When Paul was executed, his body was left on this earth, but he went to receive his crown. Real harm cannot come through the physical body to a man; real harm comes only through the soul of man.
The question is, have you asked God for mercy and forgiveness for all your sins? Have you accepted that you cannot save yourself from the consequences of sin? Have you invited Him into the depths of your soul to save you, so that when you die, you too will receive your crown?
