A Thought after reading the booklet, The Great Rescue by R.C. Sproul

The booklet is written to help you understand the saving work of Christ. It reminds, those who love and follow Christ, what salvation is. I love the way R.C. Sproul breaks salvation into questions that he very skillfully answers.

  • Saved from what?

  • Saved by what?

  • Saved for what?

It's beautifully written, easy to understand and deserves a thoughtful read. The answers to these questions are explained in 3 chapters. I'll give you the answers but the booklet is a must read to understand them.

  • Saved from God's coming wrath.

  • Saved by God himself through the sacrifice of Christ.

  • Saved for God himself for relationship and eternity.

Before reading the booklet, it’s important to grasp what it means that God is a just God. A just God embodies truth, reason, justice, and fairness. Guided by the truth of his holiness and the reality of humanity’s guilt, he governs within the bounds of reason, decreeing that the payment for sin is death—eternal separation from him. In exercising justice, he will either say “depart from me” or “well done, my good and faithful servant.” Fairness means that entry into his kingdom cannot be earned alone if one ignores the sacrifice of his perfect son on the cross, but rather it is granted through Christ’s merits alone when you embrace his sacrifice in your place. Understanding God is just will help you better grasp The Great Rescue.
